I, for one is not attracted to monks who smoke.

(During one of your talks, you mentioned that Chief Rev smoked. I never saw him smoked and that came as a shock!)Justin Choohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11275697990382930245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1012277645322483593.post-81706550132853864092008-06-12T04:28:00.000-07:002008-06-12T04:28:00.000-07:00Dear Bhante,How about mind-altering computer games...Dear Bhante,

How about mind-altering computer games that some teenagers have grown overly-obsessed with?Ser Minghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07942497616476006437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1012277645322483593.post-50357012716159470262008-06-12T01:06:00.000-07:002008-06-12T01:06:00.000-07:00Dear Yamizi,Taking alcohol or any mind-altering dr...Dear Yamizi,
Taking alcohol or any mind-altering drugs is against the Precepts. I do not say or imply that the fifth Precept was an 'add-o.'As my blog post makes clear (at least I thought I had made it clear until I read your comment), smoking and chewing betel would not come under the fifth Precept because they have almost no effect on the mind. However, smoking and betel chewing show a disregard for health and disrespect towards the body and thus are inadvisable.Shravasti Dhammikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06246408068143301108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1012277645322483593.post-34743318282994554092008-06-11T20:35:00.000-07:002008-06-11T20:35:00.000-07:00Bhante,So does the fifth precept literally refer t...Bhante,

So does the fifth precept literally refer to alcoholism?

so substance-abuse was a latter add-on to the precept?
