A Guide To Buddhism

I am happy to announce the launch of my new wed site called A Guide to Buddhism A to Z. The address is www.buddhismatoz.com and is best viewed on Firefox. In the site you will find more than 430 entries on Buddhist doctrine, history and culture and as well as the Buddhist perspective on a variety of religious subjects and contemporary issues. As much as possible I have tried to give either quotations or citations from the Pali Tipitaka that state the authentic Buddhist position. To a lesser degree I have also quoted from Mahayana sutras and later Sanskrit literature. In choosing subjects I have given preference to Buddhist doctrines but have sometimes included quirky, unusual or unexpected subjects in the hope that the reader will find these of interest too. Readers will notice that some entries have already appeared on my blog. From time to time I hope to add more entries so that eventually the site will become a sort of mini encyclopedia of Buddhism. I would like to thank my student Samata Ling who spent a good deal of time helping to get this site ready. And lastly, I hope A Guide to Buddhism A to Z helps illuminate the Dhamma for you. And of course, its always nice to get feedback.
From tomorrow I will begin a series of posts on meditation.

  1. Good! I just want to point out that "Mozzila" in the home page should actually be spelled "Mozilla". I like the site otherwise. The name makes me think of Buddhist tomatoes, but I like it just the same! :-)
After long last, I can send you my comments: for some reason (having to do with strange javascript behaviour) I always failed sending you my comments, but I can now. I've been reading your posts regularly since June, I think. I'd like to know if you have anything to say about me translating some of them into Italian and put the translations on my personal web site (ad-free, credits given, free for all to download etc.).
Thank you for everything you've done to make the Dhamma so easily and readily be known, understood and (perhaps) practised in such a lively way.

  2. Bhante,

Congratulations. It would help me tremendously in my answers as well. Whenever I use your reference, I shall acknowledge the source and also put a link to it.

By the way at the end of all my answers there is the "signature" note inviting readers to visit your blog. Now I shall also add your web site.

Which means you would still continue with this blog?

    Bow,

    Justin

  4. Dear Alessandro,
You are more than welcome to translate any of my material on condition that no charge is made for it. I'm also glad to hear that you have been one of my readers for so long and that you finally decided to let me know that I have some hard core readers out there.
Just remind me; where exactly do I mention 'mozzila'?
Do send me the address of your personal web site.

  8. Bhante, your new site's homepage, http://www.buddhismatoz.com/index.html, has this note at the bottom: «This site contains text with diacritics. For best viewing, we recommend the Mozzila Firefox browser. Download Firefox free.»
It is here that Mozzila should be corrected into Mozilla. The home page of the team that develops and markets Firefox is http://www.mozilla.com.
My home site is http://alessandro.route-add.net. It's just a very essential place where I semi-randomly park some stuff. The articles of yours I am traslating I am collecting under http://alessandro.route-add.net/Testi/Dhammico/Dhammika/.
At the bottom of each article, there is a note that says: "The copyright of the original text is the author's. The copyright of the Italian translation if the translator's. The Italian translation is covered, where compatible with the license of the original text, by the Creative Commons license version 3.0 Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/". That is, people are free to:

to Share - to copy, distribute and transmit the work
to Remix - to adapt the work
    Under the following conditions:
Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
Noncommercial. You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
Share Alike. If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.

Please let me know is this is all right to you.
    Thank you and good bye,

  9. Dear Alessandro,
That sounds okay to me. Much merit to you for spreading the Dhamma. I am just a simple monk who knows nothing about computers and someone else arranged the web site for me. Ill ask them about Mozzila/Mozilla and get back to you

  10. The page does not have a email or feedback form so I'm unable to report some typo errors I found.

  11. Congratulations on your new web site!

Only 1 feedback for now. ;-)

After we click on a topic, the link of that topic should change color to show that we have been to that link.

This would help a lot as there are many entries and with history for links that we have been to, we can tell if there are new entries as well as any old entries we have yet to cover.

    Thanks !

  12. One more similarity on http://buddhismatoz.com/b/BuddhaAndJesus.html

Both were quite critical of their current religious order. Be they the Priests / Bramins.

Will be great if the site can have some kind of feedback.

    Cheers!
