Can you really take a man dressed like this seriously? Maybe not, but Mr. F. Bailey Vanderhoef Jr. travelled through western Tibet in 1938 and the pictures he took then are now on display under the auspices of the University of California Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. You can see them at

Dear Bhante Dhammika,
I was trying to contact you but did not find a way to send you an email. Please forgive me for contacting you through this comment section.
I wonder if it is possible for you to raise the topic on Ulambana practice which is widely practised by Buddhists, controversies and misuses of it. A discussion on Tirokudda Sutta which is generally referred to on this matter would also be beneficial.
Thank you for your time, honest effort and kindness Bhante. May you always be well and happy.
My wife is very supportive of my Buddhism. There is an undercurrent of hostility, and she generally does not want to know anything about Buddhism and what I do. I think she's afraid we are not going to be in heaven together. Anyway, the hat got her attention.
Dear Bobzane,
I take my hat off to her.
