And this is another reason why I like the Dalai Lama – no pretence, doesn’t mind appearing to be human, a good sense of humor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W083nSzx1Rc
Well, this is the way the Dalai Lama talks. And that's why I somehow like him, too, but not as a spiritual teacher. Considering it more deeply, his short speech doesn't make much sense. Neither can he detect if it is the same mosquito that is coming to him again (unless he watches it all the time) - so he might very well disturb or kill a hungry mosquito that hasn't eaten yet -, nor will this behaviour prevent sometimes deadly diseases. One (the first) bite of the mosquitoe is enough to kill. Actually it makes sense only when the mosquito itself is killed the first time, to protect one's own life according to one's natural, inborn instinct (or knowledge about diseases), and maybe even protect the mosquito from bringing bad karma on itself.
I am not the 5th or 9th reincarnation of a great lama, I have not recived any empowerments or initiations, I am not the holder of any lineage, I am yet to attain any of the jhanas, I am not a widely respected teacher, I am not a stream enterer (at least I don't feel like one)and I do not have many disciples. Nontheless, you may find some of my observations and musings interesting. I have been a Buddhist monk for 32 years and am the spiritual advisor to the Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society in Singapore.

The third instance was a demo of flicking away; not killing the mosquito. The video title is wrong :-[
The Dalai Lama's version of the "Three Strikes" legislation they are passing for Internet abusers. Amusing! :-)
